Stop Stinking Up Your Brain

by Carly Neubert, BA, NC , Updated April 14, 2025

What is 1 thing you can STOP 🛑 doing in support of 1 thing you will START ✔️ doing to change your life by 5%?

What habits are worth your time and energy and which habits are not worth it? I've got 1 habit you can start and 1 habit you should stop, today!

✔️ Thinking about what you are putting in your air that ends up in your brain

What is it about scents that affect us?

When a molecule of anything, essential oil, chemical or food, enters the air it travels on the breeze.  Every breath you take and every move you make….causes breezes or shifts in the air current around you.

When you inhale a molecule of anything, whether it’s natural plant fragrances or bleach, it travels into your nose and meets up with 1000s of receptors/docks that connect with the emotional center in your brain.  Your brain reacts according to the info in the molecule that you inhaled.

Switch your cleaning products and body care to natural alternatives with mild smells and non-toxic compounds. Check EWG.org for recommendations.

For example: switch your toxic bright blue mouthwash that smells like chemicals and menthol and contains fluoride and chlorhexinate for peppermint essential oil which is proven to freshen your breath and improve your mood, by way of your nose at the same time.

Or ditch your lotion that contains petroleum-based fragrances for a version that utilizes natural plant oils to nourish your skin and don’t bother your nose or brain cells.

🛑 Stop stinking up your brain

Many of your household cleaners, soap, and perfumes have VOC volatile organic compounds that cause inflammation and over-excitement in your brain.  Stop using harsh chemicals in your house and on your body.

Moving the needle by small increments yields large results over time. ✔️ Start supporting your life with foundational healthy habits and 🛑 stop sabotaging yourself.
