All You Need To Know About Vectomega & Omega 3 Fish Oil

by Carly Neubert, BA, NC on September 20, 2018

There are over 30,000 medical studies proving that Omega 3 fat is necessary for optimal health. The benefits are not questionable. All cells----every single one---use Omega 3 to construct their protective membranes. So if you aren't eating enough Omega 3 fat in your diet, you won’t have healthy cell membranes. If you're looking for an Omega 3 fatty acid supplement, Terry Naturally's Vectomega is one of the best options out there.

Unhealthy cell membranes lead to unhealthy cells, which leads to unhealthy organs. This is why you hear that Omega 3 is helpful for just about every condition you can think of. Every organ and body system is run by cells and all cells need Omega 3 fat.

Why Should I Take Fish Oil Supplements?

Here is the short list of reasons to take fish oil supplements.

  1. Heart health including blood pressure, cholesterol, and atherosclerosis.
  2. Lower inflammation in joints.
  3. Improved brain function (think smarter not harder).
  4. Immune system health.
  5. Protection against digestive disorders like IBS and ulcerative colitis.
  6. Reduces the risk of cancer.
  7. Improved skin health.
  8. Stabilizes blood sugar and helps prevent diabetes.

Are Omega 3 and Fish Oil Supplements the Same Thing?

Yes and no. Yes, Omega 3 is the kind of fat molecule found in fish oil.  But you can also find very tiny amounts of Omega 3 fatty acid molecules in chia seeds, flax seeds, and walnuts.  The best source of Omega 3 fatty acid molecules is fish oil supplements or seafood.

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) are the most important compounds in Omega 3 fatty acids. The recommended dose of DHA/EPA is 500mg per day. When you take a 1000mg Omega 3 fish oil supplement, you are generally taking 250 mg DHA, 250 mg EPA, and 500 mg of mixed Omega 6/Omega 9 fatty acids.

Adequate intake for adults over the age of 18 is 1000-1600 mg for maintenance. If you have any other health problems from head (depression) to toe (diabetes), then you will benefit from higher doses of Omega 3.

The Dark Side of Omega 3 Fish Oil Supplements

Not all fish oil supplements are created equal. When you shop for a car, you will find a wide range of quality and you usually get what you pay for. When you shop at discount stores for your supplements, you are likely getting rancid and toxin-rich fish oil. The raw ingredients are just as important as the finished product.

What are PCBs?

PCBs are one of the most insidious health vampires around. They are usually odorless and tasteless. We are exposed to them every day. In fact, by the 1960s, people across the world from New York City to the Arctic were found to have toxic levels of PCBs in their bodies.

PCBs, polychlorinated biphenyls, are chemicals used and produced by industrial waste. PCBs are man-made chemicals that were used for a variety of functions including insulation for homes and large machinery. Electrical equipment built before 1979 may contain PCBs. From 1920 to 1979, over 1.5 billion pounds of PCBs were released into the air, water, and soil in the United States. In 1979 the US banned the manufacturing and dumping of PCBs.

However, most nations still allow the manufacture and use of PCBs. This means that our oceans are still being contaminated with PCBs. And what about all the PCBs that were dumped into the air, water, and earth within the United States? Many of those toxic chemicals are still found in our lakes, streams, groundwater, and coastlines.

PCBs have contaminated our oceans and the marine life that live there. That is why cheap fish oil is often very high in PCBs. Don’t settle for Puritan’s Pride or GNC Omega 3 fish oil that may be rancid and contain PCBs.

Bad Extraction Practices

Another problem with some Omega 3 fish oil supplements is the extraction process. Most fish oil supplements are sourced from cod, sardines, mackerel, and anchovies. It is no wonder that you experience fishy burps after taking them. Many manufacturers use very high heat and chemical solvents. These issues correlate with you getting a rancid, toxic, and chemical-laden Omega 3 fish oil supplement. So along with your DHA/EPA you are also getting a daily dose of PCBs, rancid oxidation-causing oils, and chemical hexanes.

If you are trying to build a strong and toxin free body, then you need to choose toxin-free supplements. It's time to think “inside the box” for an Omega 3 fish oil supplement. Most fish oil supplements come in a bottle, but you’ll want to look for this box if you want the most absorbable and least burpable Omega 3 fish oil supplement: Vectomega.

Absorption is Key

You may have heard that “you are what you eat". This is not entirely true. A better motto is “you are what you absorb". Unfortunately, most us don’t absorb all the nutrients in the food we eat. Poor digestion, Leaky Gut, IBS, and Crohn’s disease are the main culprits for malabsorption. It is vital to take a fish oil supplement that is easily absorbed.

Fish burps are the biggest complaint I hear. Some clients don’t want to continue to take regular fish oil supplements because they burp a fishy flavor and smell. The fishy smell and flavor is rancid fish oil. This problem is completely avoided in Vectomega. The EPA/DHA in Vectomega are bound to phospholipids, not triglyceride fish oil molecules.

EPA/DHA comes in 2 packages. Which one does your body prefer?

The DHA/EPA in Vectomega are molecularly bound to phospholipids. This is very different than all other Omega 3 fish oil supplements. All other Omega 3 fish oil supplements contain EPA/DHA that are bound to triglyceride molecules. Triglyceride molecules are much harder to digest and result in lower absorption. If you have pancreatic insufficiency or gallbladder issues, the triglyceride form of EPA/DHA could cause nausea or reflux. Those with celiac, Crohn’s disease, gastric bypass/lapband, or colostomies also have difficulty digesting triglycerides. But the phospholipid-bound EPA/DHA in Vectomega will not cause digestive upset and has superior absorption.

Vectomega Omega 3 Fish Oil

Vectomega Omega 3 fish oil supplements are produced by a patented process. The process, called Vectorization, does not use hexane, solvents, or high heat to extract the Omega 3 fatty acids. Vectorization uses proteolytic enzymes and water to extract the DHA/EPA from the salmon head. The salmon are raised in a humane and sustainable manner in their natural environment. Every batch of Vectomega is tested for heavy metals and PCBs. It passes the US and European purity standards.

Dosing

The other problem that clients run into is dosing. Many fish oil supplements recommend 2-5 capsules or 1 tablespoon of liquid fish oil. Some people can’t swallow that many capsules, or cannot stand the texture of liquid Omega 3 fish oil supplements.

You might wonder why the recommended dose is only 1-2 tablets. When you read the back of the box, you will see that each tablet contains about 200 mg of EPA/DHA bound with phospholipids. 200 mg doses are much smaller than the usual 1000mg or higher as reported in the medical studies. However, you have to account for the absorption of Vectomega: it is up to 50 times more absorbable than regular fish oil supplements.

What Makes Vectomega The Best Omega 3 Supplement?

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of companies that offer fish oil in the triglycerides form. This tiny tablet stands unchallenged in the Omega 3 competition. Vectomega doesn’t have any competition in the market. There are no other fish oil tablets that are bound to phospholipids. There are no other Omega 3 fish oil supplements that are manufactured with steam and enzymes.

Fish oil was literally the first supplement I began taking over a decade ago. It was the beginning of my health journey. I didn’t realize at that time that every cell in my body needed it. I can’t think of a condition that isn’t helped by supplemental Omega 3.
