Biocidin: Botanical Support Programs for a Balanced Microbiome

by Carly Neubert, BA, NC on August 13, 2025

If you have been around the block with your health symptoms, you have probably narrowed down the root cause to your microbiome. The more research scientists do, the more we discover that most, if not all, diseases and symptoms, begin in your gut. Your microbiome is all of the organisms (helpful and harmful) that live inside your gut. Creating a healthy balance of microbes is the key to reducing or alleviating many of our most mysterious and epidemic symptoms.

From digestion to skin concerns, and yeast overgrowth to Lyme disease, Biocidin contains a synergistic blend of botanicals to address even stubborn infections and biofilms.

What is Biocidin®?

Biocidin is unique in the world of natural antimicrobial formulas and biofilm disrupters. I discuss, in depth, the history and unique formulation in my previous blog, Biocidin:The Basics.  And more about the medical research and uses in my blog, Biocidin: The Research and Formulas.

For just a quick overview and review, Biocidin was developed by Dr. Rachel Fresco, LAc, PhD, to address biofilms and imbalances in the gut microbiome while supporting systemic health. It’s become a cornerstone in integrative protocols for SIBO, Candida overgrowth, Lyme disease, and even mold toxicity.

It is a powerful blend of botanicals that are well-studied for their antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiviral strengths. The combination has recently been recognized for its ability to disrupt biofilms. I’m not over-exaggerating, when I say this is the most powerful herbal combination I know about. I always recommend starting low and slow with anything that kills microbes within your body.  Please review this and my other blogs, the programs users guides, or schedule a consult with me, Carly Neubert BA, NC before using Biocidin formulas.

The key ingredients fall into several categories:

  • Bilberry and Noni for antioxidant support and immune cell modulation
  • Milk thistle for liver support and detoxification of dead microbes
  • Echinacea, Goldenseal, and Gentian for reducing microbes and improving immune function
  • Black Walnut and Garlic for eradication of fungus and parasites
  • Lavender and Oregano for microbes specific to the sinus and respiratory systems

Why I Recommend Biocidin

Biocidin is unique in many ways.  The formula contains several herbs that work synergistically creating a stronger response than any of the herbs would provide if used alone.  It is also known as a “biofilm buster” which means it breaks down the organisms that bind together within your body.  An example of a biofilm is the plaque that is found on your teeth.  Plaque is a biofilm that is made from bacteria clusters on the surface of your teeth.  Biofilms of yeast, fungus, and bacteria can form within your body and blood stream causing symptoms and diseases.

Biocidin is extremely strong and I recommend starting with a very low dose. Several of the herbs have compared to antibiotics in studies.  Biocidin can have side effects, discussed below, but the side effects are much more tolerable than those of antibiotics and anti-fungal medications that are commonly used for biofilms.

How to Use Biocidin®: Dosing & Delivery

Biocidin has several delivery methods. All of these delivery methods use the same herbal combination in Biocidin to be used for different indications.

Biocidin delivery methods and uses:

I always start clients low and slow—1 drop of Biocidin once per day—and increase as tolerated. Some people feel a die-off response (headaches, fatigue, skin flare-ups), which tells me that the herbs are killing microbes, but also signals a need to slow down. You don’t need to suffer to heal.  In fact, the secondary symptoms are caused by inflammation which means you are NOT healing.  Inflammation has to be regulated so that you can heal from the damage of the primary microbial issue.

Which one should I use?

Biocidin works best when used as part of a comprehensive protocol. I typically recommend one of the Biocidin Programs that I will highlight below.  The programs contain the original Biocidin herbal formula along with supportive formulas for detoxification and microbiome support.  The programs also contain a guide (download at the bottom of this page)  with information about diet, lifestyle, and detoxification.  The guides outline a dosing schedule for Biocidin and the supportive formulas.

Biocidin Programs

The Original Program: Biocidin Comprehensive Cleansing Program (60 days)

Biocidin Botanicals offers several kits.  I will highlight the 2 most popular and thorough ones.  The original kit: Biocidin Comprehensive Cleansing Program is intended for 60 days.

If you are considering this program, you will notice there are 3 variations: 1 program utilizes the Biocidin capsules, while another uses the LSF (liposomal); the third variation features the Biocidin liquid formula.  These programs are all the same.  They contain the same supplements and lifestyle recommendations and guide.  The only difference is the delivery form of the Biocidin.  I recommend the Biocidin Comprehensive Cleansing Program with Liquid Biocidin because it is the easiest one to start “low and slow.”  I always recommend starting with 1 drop of Biocidin and decreasing to ½ a drop if necessary.

This 60 day program includes

  • Biocidin formula (antimicrobial and biofilm disrupter)
  • G.I. Detox + (binder)
  • Proflora 4R (probiotic restoration):  Spore-based probiotic to reestablish a healthy microbiome within your gut
  • Olivirex Olive leaf extract and synergistic botanicals for added microbial support
  • Biotonic herbal tonic blend to support digestion
  • Dentalcidin botanical toothpaste to remove biofilms within your mouth
  • User guide with lifestyle recommendations and supplement dosing guide

Bioclear Microbiome Detox Program (30 days)

This program is intended for 30 days and also comes in three delivery forms: Biocidin capsule, liquid or LSF (liposomal).  All three of the Bioclear Microbiome Detox Programs contain the same supplements, lifestyle recommendations, and guide.  The only difference is the delivery method for the Biocidin formula.

In total, this 30-day program includes:

  • Biocidin formula (antimicrobial and biofilm disrupter)
  • G.I. Detox + (binder)
  • Proflora 4R (probiotic restoration):  Spore-based probiotic to reestablish a healthy microbiome within your gut
  • User guide with lifestyle recommendations and supplement dosing guide

FAQs

I often get this question: “what if I can’t tolerate a full drop of Biocidin to begin with?”  The easy answer is to take ½ a drop.
You can take ½ a drop of Biocidin by following these instructions:

  • Pour ½ a cup of water in a glass cup
  • Add 1 drop of Biocidin liquid
  • Stir with a metal whisk
  • Discard ¼ cup of water
  • Drink the remaining ¼ cup of water

If you are so sensitive that you cannot tolerate 1/2 -1 drop of Biocidin, I recommend that you work on detoxification before increasing any antimicrobial formula.  The first place to focus is elimination.  You must be able to eliminate toxins before you use Biocidin to irradicate pathogenic organisms (bad bugs).  You can employ many strategies to improve bowel function.

Here is a list of my top recommendations by category:

Hydration

Increase your water intake; ensure you are drinking mineral-rich water or supplement with electrolytes

Alkalizing

  • Take a warm or tepid bath with 1-2 cups of apple cider vinegar or baking soda
  • Take no sugar electrolytes
  • Drink homemade or high-quality bone broth
  • Drink low-carb sugar/vegetable juice with less than 8 grams of sugar (from fruit) per serving

Diet and Digestion

  • Increase your fat intake- this can be done by taking supplements or adding dietary fats.  Here is a recipe for my favorite fat bombs and one for a high-fat protein shake
  • Increase fiber through supplements or food.  Some people, like me, are very sensitive to increased fiber because of Leaky gut, SIBO, or IBS.  Start slow with any food or added fiber supplement.
  • Visit a qualified colon hydrotherapist
  • Perform a home enema with water or coffee

Supplements

  • Start or increase magnesium oxide supplements.  Continue to increase the dose until you reach bowel tolerance and then back the dose down.
  • Use a non-additive herbal laxative such as Triphala
  • Use digestive enzyme supplements (if you are having upper GI nausea, gas or bloating)
  • Use a betaine supplement (if you often have reflux or are sensitive to carbohydrates)
  • Use Tudca (bile acid) supplement if you have pain or pressure in your liver/gallbladder (right upper quadrant under your breast)

Structural

  • Visit a therapist that practices visceral abdominal massage or learn to perform it on yourself
  • Practice deep belly breathing to release pelvic floor muscles
  • Use a percussive massager to gently work tight areas of your lower abdomen
  • Use a Pso-rite or other tool to release your psoas muscle which can be inhibiting your ileo-cecal valve
  • Use topical magnesium oil on your lower belly
  • Take an epsom salt or magnesium oil bath to relax your muscles and saturate cells with magnesium

Who Should NOT Use Biocidin?

Biocidin is a unique blend of herbal extracts.  If you are allergic to any of the botanicals, garlic, black walnut, oregano, bilberry, noni, echinacea, goldenseal, shiitake mushrooms, tea tree, or lavender, do not consume Biocidin.  I don’t recommend pregnant or nursing women take Biocidin without consulting a health practitioner for guidance.

If you have a severe or chronic illness, I recommend ensuring that your detoxification pathways are open and you have a support plan before you start to take Biocidin. If you have MCAS (Mast cell activation syndrome), histamine intolerance, or other mast cell issues, please work with a practitioner.  Please read the information about detoxification or Herxheimer’s reactions below and construct your personal support plan before taking Biocidin.  If you would like a customized support plan, schedule a consult with me, Carly Neubert BA, NC.

How long does it take Biocidin to start working?

Biocidin is a very potent herbal formula.  If your detox pathways are compromised, you may develop herx symptoms after the first dose.  Always start low and slow.

Does Biocidin actually work?

Yes, the herbs in Biocidin have been medically studied for use against candida, yeast, mycotoxins, mold, clostridia (C Difficile), and Lyme disease.

Can you take Biocidin long term?

Biocidin can be taken 6-8 months with a recommended break after 4 months.

What does Biocidin Remove do?

The formulas in the REMOVE category of Biocidin Botanicals focus on getting rid of harmful microbes and pathogens that cause symptoms.  The formulas in the REMOVE category are:  Biocidin capsules, liquid, and lipsomal (LSF).

What not to take with Biocidin?

Do not take probiotics at the same time as your Biocidin formula.  Your probiotics should be taken at least 2 hours away from any Biocidin capsules, liquid, or LSF.

What happens if you take too much Biocidin?

If you take too much Biocidin, you can overwhelm your detoxification system and develop flu-like symptoms.  These include nausea, headache, chills, body aches, brain fog, dizziness, and low-grade fever.  This is due to a detox/herx reaction.

What are the side effects of Biocidin?

The side effects of Biocidin can be uncomfortable if you take too much at one time. This is a powerful herbal combination that can kill various pathogen infections.  You can read more about detox or “herx” reactions here.

How do you take Biocidin?

I recommend starting low and slow with the Biocidin herbal formula. It is strong and effective against serious infections. Please see the suggestions above for starting with ½ a drop of Biocidin, and how to support your detoxification.

Biocidin is a very potent herbal formulation that is best used in combination with supportive detox formulas.  If you have an acute infection, you want to use Biocidin and GI Detox together.  If you have a chronic or stubborn infection, you will likely want to use their 30 or 60 day program that includes detox support formulations.  If you would like to discuss using the Biocidin programs, please schedule a consult with me, Carly Neubert BA, NC.
