    More Info.

Stress has a direct effect on immune function primarily via the adrenal stress hormone, cortisol. Adequate cortisol is necessary to stimulate immune function and to decrease inflammation but elevated cortisol, as occurs during stress and steroid use, suppresses the deeper, adaptive aspects of immunity that protect you over the long term from disease. Consequently, both adrenal fatigue and prolonged or chronic stress can have a negative impact on immune function, making staying well an extra challenge.
