BioSpec Brand Introduction

by Carly Neubert, BA, NC on June 04, 2025

BioSpec Nutritionals is a family owned and operated company that has been bringing their supplements into the supplement world since 1997. They have three values that serve as pillars of their company: Service, Science & Results. BioSpec focuses on holistic and integrative medicine that is backed by nutrition research and scientific study. They are not swayed by the latest trends on social media, it’s important to them to approach supplement research with a healthy skepticism, understanding that all ingredients and compounds have their limitations. You can trust that BioSpec Nutritionals’ supplements are evidence based and that they continuously seek to improve their formulas to bring you the very best. In this blog I’ll give you a crash course on BioSpec Nutritionals and highlight a few of their best-selling formulas.

By Family for Family

BioSpec wants to create formulas for their family, they believe anyone who takes a chance on their supplements is just that - family. This means creating formulas that are safe and effective. The raw materials that go into BioSpec supplements are tested again and again to ensure proper identity, purity and potency. There’s no room for guessing games in their formulations. BioSpec formulations are meant to target common health and nutritional imbalances that are becoming prominent in our world. The goal is whole body health! That being said, these supplements don’t merely target diagnosis or symptoms, they act on the cellular level, addressing cellular dysfunction before it trickles down into a more serious diagnosis. Ideally, this means you’re getting ahead of more serious complications rather than band-aiding a symptom.

Essential Oils

BioSpec’s Essential Oils Softgels include a blend of Omega-3, 6 and 9. This Essential Fatty Acid (EFA) blend comes from Borage Seed Oil, Organic Flaxseed Oil and Purified Fish Oil. Your body needs healthy fatty acids to perform important functions to sustain and optimize your life.   I’ve talked a bit about Omega-3s in a previous blog which you can read here. This blend can help your body find an optimal balance of eicosanoids. Eicosanoids have a lot of different jobs, to boil them down simply, studies have shown that they play a role in inflammation. In turn, balanced eicosanoids can support healthy cardiovascular, reproductive, immune and nervous system function. In addition to those benefits, this formulation also includes Alpha-Linoleic Acid, found in the Flaxseed Oil, which can enhance antioxidant defences in your body. I suggest taking 3 Essential Oils Softgels daily.

Bio-Cal 1200

As we age, essential nutrients for our bone health tend to decline. Bio-Cal 1200 is formulated to support your body by delivering nutrients that can support bone, collagen and structural integrity. BioSpec knows there are many options when it comes to bone-support, so they worked to make sure that their formulation delivers a competitive high potency. Bio-Cal 1200 is equipped with Vitamin K2 (Mk-7) which facilitates calcium transport and storage within your body. You’ll also find Vitamin D3 in this formulation which provides optimal immune and skeletal support. For better absorption and utilization in the body, BioSpec has also included a multi-source calcium complex and microcrystalline hydroxyapatite. I suggest taking 4 tablets of Bio-Cal 1200 daily, with food. The full list of ingredients is as follows:

Super Omega 3

It can be frustrating to take a dozen softgels to hopefully get the results you’re looking for. Super Omega-3 gives you a higher concentration within each softgel so you only have to take 1-3 softgels daily to reap the benefits. Super Omega-3 provides EPA and DHA Omega-3 fatty acids which benefit your body by supporting critical body systems such as your brain, heart and blood vessels, skeletal muscle, joints, and metabolism. Overall, Omega-3 fatty acids can help with inflammatory processes in your body. The oils found in Super Omega-3 are from small, cold-water fish including anchovy, mackerel and sardines. These softgels are also purified by molecular distillation as well as mercury and cholesterol free.

Cholesterol Complete

Cholesterol Complete is all about cardiovascular health! The ingredients in Cholesterol Complete work to help your blood lipid levels, which in turn benefits your cardiovascular system. Folate (5-MTHF), Vitamins B-6 and B-12, Choline and Trimethylglycine are included in the formulation because of their participation in homocysteine metabolism. Keeping with their commitment to scientific backing, this formulation makes sense seeing as “emerging studies are uncovering novel nutritional strategies for lowering high homocysteine levels offering new possibilities for preventing cardiovascular disease” (see source reference here). Other heart-healthy ingredients in this formulation include: Red Yeast Rice, Guggulipid, Hawthorne, and Policosanols. Lastly, you’ll find that Co-Q-10, Vitamin D3, and Magnesium also made their way into this formula, these essential nutrients have been seen to support cardiovascular health as a whole. I suggest taking 4 tablets of Cholesterol Complete daily. Along with a healthy low-carbohydrate diet, and movement, Cholesterol Complete is designed to support healthy cholesterol levels.

Cardio-Ease BP

Another supplement for cardiovascular health is BioSpec’s Cardio-Ease BP. This botanical formula is focused on circulation as it relates to cardiovascular health. By supporting optimal blood pressure levels, it can support overall cardiovascular function. The ingredients in Cardio-Ease BP are noted as heart and circulatory tonics. They promote peripheral and coronary artery blood flow which keeps your cardiovascular tissue, and cardiovascular system as a whole healthy! I suggest starting with 1 Cardio-Ease BP capsule twice daily and increasing to 2 capsules twice daily if needed (we can figure out navigating a need for an increase together). The ingredients are as follows:

Serving Size: 2 Veggie Capsules

Amount/Serving

Hawthorn Berry Extract (standardized to minimum 2% vitexin & 20% procyanidins)

600 mg

Arjuna Bark Extract (10:1)

500 mg

Celery Seed Extract (standardized to contain 42.5% 3-n-butylphthalide calculated as total phthalides)

150 mg

Hibiscus Sabdariffa Extract

50 mg

Resveratrol (50% trans-resveratrol)

20 mg

Migralax

While migraines may seem an annoyance to some, they can be debilitating for others based on their intensity and/or frequency. Studies have shown a link to magnesium levels and migraine intensity and frequency. One such study illustrated this link very simply, “Serum magnesium in migraine patients was significantly lower than the normal population and related to the frequency of migraine attacks, supporting the use of magnesium in prevention and treatment of migraine.”  It is believed that this is because low serum magnesium levels can cause blood vessels to spasm, resulting in increased migraines and migraine pain. With this in mind, Migralax includes Magnesium Glycinate to help decrease the frequency of migraines. Migralax also includes Feverfew and Vitamin B-2 to aid in this same cause. I suggest taking 4 Migralax tablets daily.

For my clients who have body aches along with migraines on a regular basis, I recommend  Migralax and topical magnesium oil.  Topical magnesium oil is usually magnesium chloride that is absorbed through your skin.  You can spray it directly on your skin or put it into your bath water.  You will get the best absorption by spraying directly on your skin.  Let the oil sit on your skin for 20 minutes and then rinse off.  I usually recommend this procedure for 7 days in a row to saturate your cells with magnesium.

FAQs

What is the complete blood count for cholesterol?

Complete blood count for cholesterol is a serum (blood) test usually ordered by a doctor.  You can order the test yourself through many reputable and local companies.  The total count includes your good cholesterol (HDL) and your so-called “bad” cholesterol (LDL).   Most reference ranges state that your total cholesterol should be below 200. This is questionable science at best because the statin drug companies have been influential in decreasing the total cholesterol reference range in order to push more statin drugs.  Read more about the science of cholesterol in this great book The Great Cholesterol Myth

Do migraine pills have side effects?

The most common prescription migraine medications are sumatriptan (Imitrex, Tosymra) and rizatriptan (Maxalt, Maxalt-MLT).

Other prescription migraine medications include: Migranal (dihydroergotamine), Turdhesa, REyvow (lasmiditan), Ubrelvy (ubrogepant(, Nurtec ODT (rimegepant), and Zavzpret.

All prescription medications have side effects.  Common side effects of prescription migraine medications are  dizziness, drowsiness, weakness, nausea, upset stomach, increased heart rate, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, constipation, tingling, muscle cramps and xerostomia.

Migralax is a natural alternative for relieving migraine symptoms and does not have reported side effects.

What type of magnesium is best for migraines?

The best form of magnesium for migraines is magnesium glycinate because it is bioavailable and does not cause loose bowels. Migralax contains 400mg of magnesium glycinate. Magnesium L-threonate is also useful for migraines because it is the only form of magnesium that crosses the blood-brain barrier.  Because migraines start in your brain, additional magnesium may be a treatment or prevention.

What is biocal used for?

BioCal is recommended for bone strength.  I recommend it for those who want to prevent osteoporosis or who have been diagnosed with osteopenia.

What is Bio Cal used for?

Bio-Cal 1200 is a formula designed for supporting your body to build strong and health bone density.

What is bio calcium?

Bio calcium refers to bioavailable forms of calcium supplements. Calcium carbonate is NOT a bioavailable form of calcium and helps your body very little or not at all in terms of building bones. Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite (MCHA) has been proven to be the most bioavailable and absorbable form of calcium. You will find Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite (MCHA) in high quality bone building supplement formulas such as Bio-Cal 1200

What is the use of Bio Cal d?

Bio-Cal contains 2000 ius of vitamin D to assist in bone building.

What does super omega-3 do for your body?

Omega 3 fatty acids are used in every cell of your body. These necessary fats support metabolism, mood and brain health, joint health, heart health, eye health, and digestion---just to name a few of the benefits.

Is there a downside to taking omega-3?

You eat small amounts of omega-3 fatty acids in many of the foods you eat every day, including green vegetables, seeds, nuts, and seafood. There are no downsides to taking an omega-3 supplement. Some people report burping or reflux after taking omega-3 supplements because they contain fat. I recommend taking your Omega-3 supplement with a meal and adding in a lipase enzyme if needed to support the digestion process.

What happens if I take omega-3 every day?

Omega-3s are considered an “essential fatty acid” which means you need to consume them in your diet, whether by food or supplement, every day to achieve optimal health and wellness.

What should you not mix omega-3 with?

If you are on blood-thinning medication, check with your doctor before adding an Omega-3 supplement as it may have blood-thinning effects.
