Everything You Need to Know About Detoxing with Ortho Molecular

Detoxing has had a varied history throughout time. By building off of ideas from the past and combining with the science we know now, Ortho Molecular is a great option for reputable and reliable detoxing products. 

The history of detoxing is great and vast, so I will only hit on the highlights.

One of the oldest forms of medicine in history can be found in Ayurveda in India. A primary component of their health methods was detoxification. Detoxification was also a key practice in Traditional Chinese Medicine. They practiced detoxification through acupuncture. Native Americans approached detoxing through rituals including foods and herbs intake to rid the body of toxins. There were baths in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, and Nordic countries had saunas. We can see many of these elements continued into present day with the same goal of ridding the body of toxins.

The first product we will look into is Z-Binder. Z-Binder is a binder with broad-spectrum effects. 

You may be thinking, what’s a binder?

A binder is a supplement that has the ability to gather and remove a variety of toxins and/or debris. This allows for a more thorough and comprehensive detoxification and can provide more relief. Fiber may also be used to detox, but binders can more carefully target toxins themselves. 

Toxins and cellular debris can cause many symptoms that can confuse and debilitate your body. Here is a simple example: when you get a cold or flu, your immune cells go to work to kill that pathogen in your body. Often times, you get swollen lymph glands. This is actually a good sign that you immune cells are killing a lot of pathogens. The next step is that you lymph glands need to filter and detoxify your blood and lymph fluid from all the toxins created by killing the pathogen.  Although your swollen lymph glands may be uncomfortable, this is a natural part of your body’s detoxification systems.  

The ingredients in this formula include zeolite, activated charcoal, humic and fulvic acids. Zeolite has the ability to bind to heavy metals and absorb harmful organisms. It is tested rigorously to ensure safety and purity. Activated charcoal has been used for impeding the negative effects of toxins. Activated charcoal does not get absorbed by your gut, so it arrives there in its original form. It is has a negative charge, so it attracts substances with positively charged molecules (toxins and gases). The trapped toxins and gases can be better trapped and eliminated instead of remaining in the body. 

The final ingredients is Shilajit or Humic acid. Humic and fulvic acids can be easily confused, but differences can be found at the molecular level. Fulvic acids come from the breakdown of plants and animal matter. They are smaller, so most of their work is at the cellular level. With the right pressure and time, Fulvic acids become Humic acids. Humic acids work outside of the cell to protect against toxins. Shilajit, also know as humic acid, contains over 80 minerals and has been consumed for centuries.  It is a traditional part of the Sherpas of Nepal who have extraordinary strength and endurance.  It has been shown in medical studies to be a possible prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.   

I recommends two capsules between meals or 2 hours after you eat.

PhytoCore

Did you know that there are different pathways where liver detoxification can take place? PhytoCore is meant for Phase I and II liver detoxification. Phase I is the first line of defense against toxins. Enzymes called the “cytochrome P450 family” neutralize substances like alcohol or caffeine. By turning these toxins into less harmful ones, they protect the body. Phase I is not the only one that needs to be completed, however. If Phase II isn’t completed, the byproducts of Phase I can pose a threat to the body through buildup. This is where Phase II comes in. Phase II neutralizes the byproducts of Phase I by making them water-soluble. Then, they can be easily removed from the body via excretion. 

PhytoCore supports both of these phases and can help boost liver health. 

The ingredients in this formula include Silymarin, Artichoke, Turmeric Root Extract Dandelion Root Extract, Methionine and Choline, and Beet Leaf.

 Silymarin (Milk Thistle Extract) has been used throughout history for addressing liver diseases and other disorders. It was used as a liver tonic in Europe. Silymarin’s abilities to positively effect the liver come from its antiinflammatory and antioxidant properties. 

Artichoke was used in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome for a digestive aid. Today, we can see it used for antioxidant and liver support. 

Turmeric Root Extract is a favorite of mine and very popular in general.  It is used in many formulas for addressing inflammation and detoxification. 

Dandelion Root Extract has also been used to treat liver diseases because of it’s composition of nutrients. Dandelion Root Extract is full of phytochemicals (chemicals produced by plants) which help provide therapeutic benefits for liver diseases. 

Methionine and Choline are both important nutrients that we acquire through diet. A 2017 study discussed how a lack of methionine and choline in the diet of rats accelerated the progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. A 2018 study discussed utilizing beet leaves and stalks to address oxidative damage in mice livers.  

Beet leaf has been used for centuries to purify both the blood and liver. 

The dose is two to three capsules two times per day. 

Core Restore Kit

The Core Restore Kit is a great way to address toxic burden and liver detoxification - all in one kit. By revitalizing liver health, the kit provides nutrients that support and encourage detoxification in both Phase I and II. It is an easy-to-follow 7 or 14 day kit.

Taurine helps the liver create bile salts. Bile salts help break down fatty acids. 

Green tea extract has anti-inflammatory benefits which may be helpful for addressing oxidative stress and liver function. Lastly, lipoic acid

While detoxing may pique your interest, it should be said that not all detoxes/detox products are alike in effectiveness and safety.
