Reducore: Another natural GLP-1 without the side effects

by Carly Neubert, BA, NC , Published July 01, 2026

If you are searching the web for information about GLP-1 drugs, I’m sure you have found that many foods and natural substances have the same effect as this new class of injectable drugs. Of course, the injectable GLP-1 drugs are just mimicking the natural GLP hormone that your own body manufactures. There is no argument that the drugs are much more potent and faster acting than your bodies’ natural GLP-1 hormones. And this potency and speed also come at a high price of up to thousands of dollars per month. But money isn’t the only consideration and price. These medications can wreak havoc on your body and long-term health.

Before you run out and try the latest iteration of a GLP-1 injection or the new class of drugs that affects both GLP-1 and GIP receptors, please consider the side effects.

One of the most noticeable and worrisome side effects of injectable GLP-1s is muscle loss.

The supplement and medication markets are flooded with GLP-1 medications and supplements. The important factor to remember is that both medications and supplements are altering the hormones that signal to your brain to stop eating when you are full.

Metabolic health and weight loss are more than just calories in and calories spent.  It isn’t just about willpower either.  Different bodies have different needs and differences in hormonal activity, as well as microbiome diversity. Yes, you read that correctly, your microbiome affects your ability to maintain or lose weight. Muscle mass also directly affects your ability to burn fat for energy and lose weight.  You can think of these three factors as the “metabolic triad.”

The triad consists of blood sugar balance, microbiome health, and muscle mass. This triad interplays with each other and a win in one area will mean a win in the other two areas.  On the other hand, a breakdown in one function will lead to dysfunction in the others.  For example, poor blood sugar balance can increase cravings and energy crashes. Loss of muscle mass can reduce metabolic flexibility and glucose utilization. An unhealthy gut microbiome can influence satiety hormones, inflammation, and insulin signaling

GLP-1’s are a mixed bag of results for your metabolic triad.  When you take a GLP-1 drug, you are affecting your blood sugar balance because you are eating fewer calories.  This can have both positive and negative effects. Positive effects are weight loss and lowered blood sugar.  But blood sugars can start to run too low, and you can lose muscle instead of fat.  And the third component of the metabolic triad, your microbiome, can be negatively affected by eating less calories and less fiber.  Given these negative side effects, and the ones listed above, I recommend opting for slower, less expensive, and safer options. I have written about Hi-Phenolic and HepatoCore for weight loss and now am recommending Reducore.  These formulas can be used together or on their own to support natural healthy weight loss without the high price tag and dangerous side effects.  The benefit of using these formulas is that you don’t run the risk of rebound weight gain like you do when using injectable GLP-1s.

Instead of focusing on only one pathway, Reducore was designed to support the  “metabolic triad” which is your microbiome health, glycemic balance, and muscle preservation.  Unlike injectable GLP-1s, with Reducore, you don’t have to worry about the unwanted side effects.

What Makes Reducore™ Different?

Instead of a single nutrient, Reducore is a broader, science-backed approach using three synergistic blends:

  • BiomeFuel Blend
  • Muscle Support Blend
  • Glycemic Control Blend

Together, these blends are designed to support your body in making its own GLP-1 hormones. This creates a healthy post-meal glucose response, satiety, muscle maintenance, and healthy body composition.

This approach allows your body to self-correct and make your own GLP-1 to even out your appetite and food cravings. Reducore supports your microbiome while preserving your muscle mass. This is a winning option compared to the muscle loss and digestive distress that come along with GLP-1 injectables.

The Gut-Metabolism Connection

One of the most fascinating areas of modern nutrition research is the gut microbiome. The bacteria and organisms living INSIDE you affect your overall health and wellness, including your metabolic health and weight.

Scientists now understand that beneficial bacteria help produce compounds called short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), including butyrate, which play major roles in insulin sensitivity, satiety signaling, gut barrier integrity, and metabolic flexibility. Those helpful bacteria use fiber in order to make SCFAs.  Reducore includes several clinically studied prebiotic fibers designed to nourish these beneficial microbes.

Resistant Tapioca Dextrin (FiberSMART)

FiberSMART® is a digestion-resistant soluble fiber that helps feed beneficial bacteria like Bifidobacterium and Akkermansia muciniphila. These microbes are increasingly associated with healthy metabolism and gut integrity.

This randomized double blind placebo controlled study suggests resistant fibers may help support GLP-1 and PYY signaling.  This proves that this type of fiber alters and controls your "hungry" or "full" messaging between your brain and stomach.

Resistant Potato Starch (Solnul)

Solnul® resistant potato starch is another highly researched fiber found in the Reducore formula.  In a randomized placebo-controlled trial, participants taking Solnul® experienced significant increases in beneficial bacteria, including Akkermansia and Bifidobacterium.  After taking Solnul for 4 weeks, the subjects had:

  • +238% increase in Akkermansia
  • +215% increase in Bifidobacterium

Remember that these 2 probiotics are associated with weight loss and a healthy gut and digestion.  This type of starch is also IBS-friendly.

Mulberry Leaf Extract (Reducose)

Reducose is another well-researched nutrient included in ReduCore.  It is a standardized mulberry leaf extract that helps slow carbohydrate breakdown in the small intestine by inhibiting alpha-glucosidase enzymes.  It is another nutrient that helps you to feel full and satisfied longer.

In a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study, participants consuming Reducose with sucrose (sugar) experienced significantly lower postprandial glucose and insulin responses compared to placebo.  They ate 75 grams of sugar and fiber (Reducose) and their blood sugar didn’t rise too high, their insulin didn’t spike, and they stayed full.  Note that 75 grams of sugar is around ½ cup of granulated sugar.  The published data showed reductions in glucose and insulin responses by approximately 40% in some measurements.  That is a pretty impressive response that you won’t get from taking a GLP-1 injectable.

For people dealing with energy crashes, cravings after meals, or unstable blood sugar patterns, this type of support can be incredibly valuable.  As someone who is prone to this type of unstable blood sugar, I am impressed by the nutrient.  I often get brain fog after eating, yet don’t want to get low blood sugar from fasting, so it is always a quandary.   I especially struggle with my mid-day meals.  I don’t want to skip them, but I also don’t want to feel sluggish and too tired to think or get my work done.  The fibers and mulberry leaf extract in ReduCore are a simple answer to my blood sugar instability during my working hours.

Allulose

Reducore also contains allulose, a rare sugar that has been studied for its effects on post-meal glucose and insulin responses. Research suggests allulose may help support healthy glucose metabolism without contributing significantly to caloric intake. Allulose is known as a non-chemical sugar alternative.  I often react (with diarrhea) to other natural sweeteners like xylitol or erythritol, but I don’t have the issue with allulose.  I would consider it moderately safe for people with IBS or who are on the FodMaps diet.

Oat Beta Glucan

Oat beta-glucan is another excellent addition. This soluble fiber forms a gel-like matrix in the digestive tract, slowing gastric emptying and carbohydrate absorption while promoting fullness and more balanced glycemic responses.  I have also written about the immune benefits of beta-glucan in these blogs.  The ReduCore formula doesn’t contain immune enhancing doses.  So if you are looking for those benefits, it's best to take a Beta Glucan supplement.

Why Muscle Support Matters for Metabolism

This is the part many people overlook when they start to take a GLP-1 injectable.  They see weight loss and don’t notice that some, or much, of it is coming from muscle loss.  Why do you lose muscle on GLP-1 injectables?  It is a vicious cycle:

  • You take the injectable drug
  • Your appetite is low
  • You eat less calories
  • Your energy is low (because you eat less calories)
  • You don’t exercise (because your energy is low)
  • Your body breaks down muscle to create energy
  • The scale shows you have lost weight, but it is from loss of muscle

Weight loss is important if you are overweight, but losing muscle is counterproductive.  Maintaining lean muscle mass becomes especially important during aging, intermittent fasting, calorie restriction, or weight loss efforts.

Reducore™ includes Amino L40, a leucine-rich essential amino acid blend to support your muscle mass while you are losing weight.

Amino L40®

Leucine is one of the most important amino acids for stimulating muscle protein synthesis (MPS). Studies have shown leucine-enriched essential amino acid blends can stimulate MPS even more effectively than whey protein alone in some populations.

One particularly interesting study found that just 1.5 grams of leucine-enriched essential amino acids stimulated muscle protein synthesis comparable to 40 grams of whey protein in older women. As a middle aged woman who doesn’t digest whey protein very well, this is a much better alternative for me. Amino L40 is also vegetarian friendly because it does not contain dairy like whey protein does.

A More Comprehensive View of Weight Management

I appreciate the various nutrients in Reducore because they reflect a more modern and comprehensive understanding of metabolism.  Pharmaceutical GLP-1s are marketed as a one-stop-shop for all your weight problems.  But very little is said about the microbiome, muscle wasting, and habits that must change.  Reducore isn’t like a GLP-1 injectable that just causes you to eat less and slows down your whole digestive tract at the expense of your muscles and organ.  Reducore does support your bodies’ own production and utilization of your body-made GLP-1 "satisfied" hormone.

Healthy weight management isn’t only about “eating less.” It’s about:

  • Supporting satiety signals
  • Improving metabolic flexibility
  • Preserving lean muscle
  • Nourishing beneficial gut bacteria
  • Supporting healthy post-meal glucose responses
  • Maintaining energy stability

Reducore was clearly formulated with those bigger-picture goals in mind.

FAQs

How does Reducore compare to GLP-1 injections?

Reducore™ and GLP-1 injections like Wegovy, Ozempic, and Zepbound are trying to influence some of the same metabolic pathways, but they accomplish this in very different ways.

The simplest way to think about it is this:

  • GLP-1 injections are pharmaceutical hormone mimics
  • Reducore™ is a nutritional/metabolic support formula designed to naturally support several related pathways

They are not equivalent in potency, but there is some overlap in their goals.

How do GLP-1 Injections Work?

GLP-1 medications mimic or activate the body’s GLP-1 receptor system. These drugs:

  • reduce appetite
  • increase satiety
  • slow stomach emptying
  • improve insulin signaling
  • lower post-meal glucose spikes
  • have massive and long-lasting side effects as listed above

The newer medications, such as tirzepatide, also activate GIP receptors in addition to GLP-1 receptors, which may further enhance weight loss and glucose control.

Average weight loss with prescription GLP-1 medications is often substantial:

  • Semaglutide: roughly 10–15% body weight reduction
  • Tirzepatide: roughly 15–25% in some studies

That level of weight loss is dramatically beyond what most supplements can demonstrate.

How does Reducore Work?

Reducore™ is not a GLP-1 agonist drug like the injectable prescriptions.  It does not directly activate GLP-1 receptors the way semaglutide or tirzepatide do.

Instead, Reducore contains nutrients that are designed to:

  • support the body’s natural GLP-1 signaling
  • improve post-meal glucose handling
  • support satiety
  • nourish beneficial gut bacteria
  • preserve lean muscle mass
  • improve metabolic flexibility

Rather than one pharmaceutical mechanism, it combines several nutritional approaches.

How is  Reducore similar to GLP-1 injectable medications?

GLP-1 injectables flood your body with the “stop eating” hormone.   Conversely, several ingredients in Reducore may support your body in making its own satiety hormones and metabolic signaling.

Why take Reducore instead of an injectable GLP-1?

The list of side effects of GLP-1 medications is long and frightening. Along with the price and rebound weight gain, these injectables are a gamble with your long-term health and weight loss.

GLP-1 medications can absolutely reduce muscle mass along with fat loss, especially if protein intake and resistance training are inadequate.

Reducore specifically includes ingredients for muscle support and growth:

  • leucine-rich essential amino acids
  • magnesium
  • muscle protein synthesis support

What are the side effects of Reducore?

Reducore’s likely side effects are more typical of fiber/metabolic supplements:

  • bloating
  • gas
  • GI discomfort
  • possible intolerance to certain fibers

Overall, Reducore has much fewer risks and side effects than pharmaceutical GLP-1 therapy.

Who Might Consider Reducore Instead of GLP-1s?

I recommend Reducore to people who:

  • Have diabetes
  • Are obese
  • Want milder metabolic support
  • Are not candidates for GLP-1 medications
  • Do not want injections
  • Want to support blood sugar balance naturally
  • Are focused on gut health and satiety
  • Want muscle-supportive metabolic nutrition
  • Want to save money
  • Want sustained weight loss over time without rebound weight gain
  • My clients with Metabolic Syndrome
  • Have high tryglycerides
  • Have high blood pressure in conjunction with obesity

It may also make sense for:

  • People transitioning off GLP-1 medications
  • Individuals trying to support maintenance habits
  • People wanting nutirtional support alongside lifestyle changes

What are the downsides to GLP-1 injections?

GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound can be very effective for weight loss and blood sugar control, but they also come with real tradeoffs and risks that often get minimized online.

Some people do extremely well on them. Others stop because of side effects, cost, muscle loss, or feeling physically unwell.

What are the main reasons to avoid GLP-1 injectables?

1. Muscle Loss Is a Legitimate Concern

This is one of the most under-discussed issues.

When people lose weight rapidly, they usually lose:

  • fat
  • water
  • glycogen
  • AND lean muscle mass

GLP-1 drugs are not selective for fat loss.  Some studies suggest a meaningful percentage of total weight loss may come from lean mass.

That matters because muscle:

  • supports metabolic rate
  • helps regulate glucose
  • protects mobility and aging
  • affects long-term weight maintenance

People at higher risk for muscle loss include:

  • older adults
  • people not strength training
  • people under-eating protein
  • Individuals already metabolically fragile

2. Your Appetite Can Become Too Suppressed

A lot of people assume “less appetite” is always good.

But some people report:

  • forgetting to eat
  • difficulty consuming enough protein because of slower digestion
  • fatigue from low calorie intake
  • nutrient deficiencies
  • low energy
  • dizziness

Some people even develop aversions to food or struggle socially around eating.  These medications can sometimes push people into chronically under-fueling themselves.

3. Weight Regain Is Very Common After Stopping

This is probably one of the biggest realities people don’t hear enough about. For many individuals, appetite returns strongly after discontinuation. Studies have shown significant weight regain after stopping semaglutide therapy.

Why? Because the medication was actively suppressing appetite and altering hunger signaling. When you stop taking the medication, the hunger signals return. If you haven’t changed your habits, physiology or exercise, you will likely gain weight.

Once removed:

  • cravings may return
  • calorie intake increases
  • metabolic adaptation remains
  • prior habits often re-emerge

4. They’re Expensive

Without insurance coverage, GLP-1 medications can cost:

  • hundreds to over $1,000+ per month

Insurance coverage is inconsistent.  Some insurers cover injectable GLP-1s for diabetes use but not weight loss.

Others require:

  • prior authorization
  • BMI thresholds
  • failed diet attempts
  • step therapy

Many people lose coverage unexpectedly.

5. Potential Gallbladder Problems

Rapid weight loss itself increases gallstone risk.  This is commonly seen from any low fat or low calorie diet.

GLP-1 medications may further increase:

  • gallstones
  • gallbladder inflammation
  • biliary complications

6. Possible Pancreatitis Risk

There have been concerns about pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). The relationship is still debated and studied, but warnings exist in prescribing information and on the drug information sheets.

People with the following issues need to be cautious:

  • prior pancreatitis
  • certain pancreatic conditions
  • heavy alcohol use

7. Delayed Gastric Emptying Can Create Problems

GLP-1 drugs intentionally slow stomach emptying. That helps fullness but in most people it becomes excessive and causes side effects.

Potential issues:

  1. severe constipation
  2. food sitting in stomach too long/dysbiosis
  3. nausea/vomiting
  4. gastroparesis-like symptoms

Some surgical societies now recommend holding GLP-1 drugs before procedures.

8. Psychological and Emotional Effects Can Be Mixed

Some people feel:

  • liberated from constant food thoughts (reduced food chatter)
  • emotionally calmer around eating

Others report:

  • emotional flatness
  • reduced pleasure from food
  • anxiety about eating
  • social withdrawal
  • frustration with side effects

There are also emerging discussions about how these drugs affect reward pathways more broadly, though research is ongoing.

9. Long-Term Data Is Not Available

These medications are newer and without long-term data.  Much like Fen-Phen, these drugs have hit the market and exploded.   There are no long-term studies about how GLP1-s affect your microbiome, metabolism, immune health, muscle tone, or bone density.

We have:

  • good short- and medium-term data
  • improving cardiovascular outcome data

But we do not yet have decades of long-term weight-loss population data.

Questions still being studied include:

  • long-term muscle effects
  • long-term GI effects
  • metabolic adaptation
  • durability after discontinuation
  • optimal maintenance strategies

Final Thoughts

Weight loss for diabetes and metabolic health is a real issue in the United States. I have blogged extensively about the metabolic crises in the US.  In this blog, I outline all of the causes and effects of Metabolic Syndrome, including diabetes, obesity, high triglycerides, cholesterol, and blood pressure.  There is no “magic pill” or injection that will change your metabolism or your habits.  Real change in your choices and habits is always needed for sustained weight loss and metabolic health.

If you’re looking for natural support for appetite management, healthy glucose responses, microbiome health, or maintaining lean muscle while supporting healthy body composition, Reducore may be worth exploring.  Because true metabolic health isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about creating resilience from the inside out.  For a customized plan for using Reducore and other support for GLP-1 pathways, schedule a consult with me, Carly Neubert BA, NC.
